Where should I live?
Deciding where to live is not easy. In addition to the many factors (cost, family, facilities and proximity to work and schools)
influencing decisions, people concerned about pollution may also factor in local air quality.
Air pollution can affect your long term health even if you do not
experience effects at the time of exposure.
The main source of outdoor pollution in London is busy roads;
living within a few metres of a busy road can mean 2 to 3 times the pollution concentrations of a background location, normally
an area at least 50-100m away.
Living away from busy roads does not remove all pollution risk, since ground level ozone
concentrations are often highest in suburbs or in the countryside.
Some of highest pollution concentrations can occur indoors,
caused, for example, by gas cooking.
