Royal Society of Chemistry Christmas conference
News from the LAQN

At the heart of the VW revelations are exhaust emission tests of nitrogen oxides. This year's conference will focus on vehicle emissions along with other high profile topics and new measurement techniques. The conference will be held in conjunction with DEFRA’s Air Quality Expert Group and will include sessions based on topics that AQEG are current scoping to help gather evidence.

Day One

Day one of the conference will focus on different perspectives on the disparity between test and real-world vehicle emissions. Speakers will provide insights from laboratory vehicle tests, remote sensing, on-board emissions measurements and chaser experiments. Trends in urban concentrations will also be presented along with new issues of previously unmeasured hydrocarbons from diesel vehicles and emissions from shipping.

Day Two

Creative solutions to reducing urban air pollution exposure include the use of vegetation and planting. Evidence for the effectiveness of these measures will be explored. A dedicated session will focus on ultrafine particles and engineered nanoparticles. Returning to a traditional theme of this long-running conference series the final sessions of the conference will show how new air pollution measurement techniques and sensor technologies can provide insights into current air pollution problems.
