New air pollution monitoring site at Sutton
News from the LAQN

London Borough of Sutton recently commissioned a new air pollution monitoring site in the grounds of their Fleet Services depot on Therapia Lane. The main objective of the site is to measure concentrations of PM10 arising from the many industrial sources around Therapia Lane.

The site is also likely to be affected by fugitive PM10 from industrial processes on Beddington Lane approximately 0.3 km to the west. PM10 monitoring is by TEOM, with a NOx analyser in place to provide additional measurements for subsequent modelling and source apportionment studies.

Although the site has an industrial setting, it is close to a terrace of houses on Therapia Lane. The new site will complement Sutton’s other Industrial monitoring site, which is situated approximately 1 km to the north west at the junction of Beddington Lane and Brookmead Road. Sutton’s representation on the London Air Quality Network now stands at five continuous monitoring sites.
