At the end of March, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council commissioned a new continuous monitoring site by the A25, Reigate High Street. The site – Reigate and Banstead 4 – is located by the kerbside in an area which attracts many shoppers and consequently has a relatively high pedestrian flow. Oxides of Nitrogen are measured along with various meteorological parameters, including wind speed and direction.
The Reigate and Banstead 4 site increases air pollution monitoring within the borough and will provide different information to the council’s three well-established sites which, by contrast, are in urban background locations close to the perimeter of Gatwick Airport. On a wider scale, the new site expands monitoring coverage within Surrey and will enhance understanding of air pollution conditions and behaviour within the county.
