Clearing London’s air - the Mayor’s air quality strategy
News from the LAQN

The Mayor's draft Air Quality Strategy was published on Monday 29th March.

Despite great improvements to air quality over the years in London, the Strategy acknowledges the threats to public health and the environment from current levels of air pollution, and sets out the Mayor's proposals for reducing air pollution in the capital. The report focuses in particular on two pollutants, both deriving in large part from transport sources in London: Particulate matter (PM10) which poses the biggest threat to public health from air pollution, and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), levels of which are in excess of the legal EU limits and likely to remain so for some time to come.

The Strategy assesses the impacts of the Mayor's policies; based on modelling and analysis by ERG at King's and stresses the need for further co-operative action with central government to improve air quality still further.
