Diffusive and low cost monitoring conference

Since the Royal Society of Chemistry’s successful conferences on diffusive sampling in Luxembourg in 1986 and in Montpellier in 2001, the role of the technique in the assessment of air pollution has changed dramatically. With the development of the EU Air Quality Directive, the Daughter Directives and the recent Directive ‘on Ambient Air Quality and Cleaner Air for Europe’, importance of the diffusive sampling has been further recognised and widely implemented. Although formally only used in the workplace, the technique is now accepted for ambient air and indoor air monitoring and personal exposure assessment. More recently other low cost methods, including sensors and miniature instrumentation have also become available.

The RSC’s Automated Analytical Measurement Group will be organising a third conference to present the state of art and the newest developments in the field during September 2009. This Krakow Conference offers a good opportunity to bring together scientists, air quality managers and manufacturers, to exchange experiences and thoughts about the new applications.
