Pollution Notification released on 17/07/2006
Widespread "moderate" ozone was measured across all of London and south east England with the exception of roadside sites in London.
"High" ozone was measured in Sussex on Sunday 16th July, at a rural site to the north of Chichester during the afternoon, with peak concentrations reaching 90 ppb.
The "high" ozone measured on Sunday was preceded by "moderate" ozone on Saturday 15th July and on Wednesday 12th July. This "summertime smog" incident is expected to continue this week.
Once again, last night, coastal effects caused "moderate" ozone in parts of Sussex with a peak hourly concentration of 71 ppb being measured in the northern parts of Hove at 1 AM
Over the weekend elevated sulphur dioxide was also measured across parts of south London and west Kent with peak concentrations being measured in Sevenoaks and Crystal Palace. Separately, plume grounding caused elevated sulphur dioxide across parts of the New Forest.
