A new urban background monitoring site, measuring nitrogen oxides, has been installed by Enfield Council at the Prince of Wales Primary School in the north-east of the Borough.
This is the first time that detailed air pollution measurements have been made in this part of the Borough. By installing the monitoring site at a primary school, the council will also be providing valuable data to assess children’s air pollution exposure - an issue that has concerned scientists, and has been recently highlighted by the campaign group Clean Air in London.
The new monitoring site is the most northern in London and will therefore make a valuable addition to spatial coverage of the London Air Quality Network. Monitoring results from the Prince of Wales Primary School will be combined with measurements from other background sites to create essential profiles of background concentrations across greater London, which in turn, can be used to assess local contributions at roadside sites.
