New Internet-based weekly site reports
News from the LAQN

Following a successful pilot during the summer, King's College London has recently introduced an Internet-based system of weekly site reports for LAQN monitoring sites to replace the fax-based system previously used. This free service is available to all Districts and Boroughs whose monitoring sites are managed by ERG. Distribution is not limited to local authorities - recipients can include schools, libraries, local press or any other interested parties, free of charge.

Each Friday, subscribers are sent an email containing a link to the week’s report, one link for each monitoring site within the recipient’s District or Borough. The report consists of a graphical and statistical summary of pollutant measurements over the previous seven days. Progress over the year against the Air Quality Strategy Objectives is included in the statistical report.

Other than the obvious environmental benefits of a non-paper system, there are a number of advantages. Reports can be accessed at any time and are automatically updated as the underlying measurements are ratified. A separate url gives access to historical reports covering any seven day period back to 1993 (subject to data being available). Graphs can be saved as image files and inserted into other reports. The reports are colour coded for low, moderate and high statistics and the graphs are individually presented for direct comparison to Defra's Air Quality Banding system.
