London Mayor Boris Johnson has announced his vision of an Ultra Low Emission Zone, to be implemented in the centre of the capital in seven years time. The announcement also contained information on phase five of the London Low Emission Zone, planned for 2015, which will now be targeted towards buses only.
The Mayor outlined a range of other air quality initiatives and how his Mayor’s Air Quality Fund will help boroughs target new spending on local air pollution hotspots. Along with the Cleaner Air Boroughs initiative, it is envisaged that these borough projects will include a combination of measures on the ground, public information on air pollution and impacts analysis to improve the evidence base for successful air quality abatement schemes.
