News from the LAQN

Last week was an extraordinary week for air pollution in the UK. The combination of visible Saharan dust on cars and the inclusion of air pollution warnings in the national weather forecast catapulted air quality into headline news.

We provided rolling analysis and commentary to the press and media throughout the week. Our ongoing analysis of the episode affecting the south-east was only possible because you participate in and support the London Network.

In addition to providing high quality data, our purpose is to add value to your data by using it in high impact air quality research and communicating it to the public. For us, data management means more than just collecting and validating data; it's about using that data to further our collective understanding of the sources, the nature and the health effects of modern day air pollution. This in turn helps policy makers at all levels of government to manage air pollution more effectively.

Over the week the London Air desktop and mobile sites hosted over 20,000 unique visitors, over 600 people added the London Air apps to their phones and we sent out over 2 million pollution notifications to our app subscribers. The information from the London Air Quality Network reached a wide audience.

Thank you for your continued participation in and support of the London Air Quality Network - an incredibly valuable resource for government, researchers and public alike.
