Minor amendment to statistics map
News from the LAQN

We have made a minor amendment to the way in which air quality statistics are displayed on the LAQN statistics map (see the link below) in order to bring it in line with reporting requirements contained within the EU Air Quality Directive and the National Air Quality Strategy. Annual mean statistics are now only displayed where a site has reported at least 90% valid data over the whole year. Previously, this threshold was set at 75%.

A second minor change affects the way in which short-term objectives are displayed (i.e., those not relating to annual mean concentrations). The statistics page now indicates where site fails to meet a short-term objective even when the 90% valid data capture threshold was not achieved. This is because the inclusion of additional valid data would not alter the fact that an exceedence has occurred. Note that this is our own interpretation of the EU Directive reporting requirements.

Note that these changes do not affect statistics during the current year, where all results are displayed.

If you want to see Air Quality Objective statistics where the 90% threshold was not achieved, use the ‘tools’ page (see the link below), however, such statistics should be used with caution.
