The City of Westminster Council has integrated a further monitoring site into the LAQN. The site is located in a background location in Covent Garden at the London Transport Museum and is currently monitoring nitrogen dioxide. Up-to-date measurements can be found on the LondonAir website along with further site details and photographs.
The new addition complements the Council’s existing roadside monitoring at Charing Cross Library which joined the LAQN in February 2007. The Covent Garden measurements should be a useful indication of background levels in a busy central London location. This will make an important contribution to gaining a better perspective of background nitrogen dioxide in an area which exceeds the EU Limit Value. The site is also of interest for its location within the Congestion Charging zone.
