Reducing personal exposure to air pollution – public meeting 16th January
News from the LAQN

King’s ERG is working with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to form the South London Air Pollution Community Group. The project recently kicked off with a public exposure demonstration study covered on BBC London TV and radio.

This demonstration study involved seven residents of south London carrying portable pollution monitors and GPS watches as they went about their normal daily activities. The volunteers included a pensioner, a cycle courier, an ambulance driver and a school pupil. The results highlighted how different modes of transport, travel routes and home conditions can have a large influence on how much pollution we are exposed to.

The next phase of the project will be launched at a public meeting at Guy’s Hospital on 16th January 2013 at 6pm. At this meeting we hope to recruit a range of community groups to help us improve methods of informing the public about the risks of air pollution, how to reduce our exposure and what we can do to improve air quality.

If you belong to a residential, health support, environmental or any other community group based in south London and are interested in taking part in this on-going project, please contact us for more details and to book a place at the meeting.

The project is funded through the GSTFT/KCL NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.
