King’s particle measurements go mobile
News from the LAQN

The highly time resolved chemical speciation measurements of PM undertaken by Dr David Green’s team have now gained wheels and the team have been commissioned by the Welsh Government to undertake two sampling campaigns in South Wales.

The new trailer contains a suite of instruments that can measure the full range of PM chemical composition and particle number using highly specialised equipment.

The data will be used to identify different sources of PM in complex environments where atmospheric processes and local activity make their identification and quantification difficult using lower time resolution techniques or PM mass measurements alone.

The current deployment In South Wales will focus on the high nickel concentrations measured in the Swansea valley, which have been shown to be above the EU Target Value, and on the breaches of the PM10 daily limit value close to the Port Talbot steel works.
