Airborne is an ongoing project examining the impact of air pollution on the health of children in London. Some of the images from this project - which feature abstract use of modelled air pollution maps from King’s College and sputum images - will be exhibited as part of the London College of Communication Postgraduate Show. These maps are used with permission from The Greater London Authority and Transport for London, who fund, develop and maintain the London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory. Latest statistics on air pollution inspired photojournalist Sarah Stirk to take on the project; "Nearly 10,000 Londoners die early every year from long-term exposure to air pollution, and new research reveals that over 400 of London’s schools exceed legal pollution levels. At the height of a child, pollution levels can be 30% higher than for an adult. Children are the most vulnerable to this pollution as permanent, lifelong damage can be caused to their developing lungs."
