PhD Studentships

We are delighted to welcome applications for three PhD studentships within the MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health, starting in 2017. One PhD studentship will be based at the Environmental Research Group (King’s College London) while the other two 3,5 year PhD studentships co-funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Imperial College MRC-DTP will be based in the Small Area Health Statistics Unit (SAHSU), which is part of the MRC-PHE Centre for Environment & Health, within the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Imperial College London. SAHSU is located on the campus at St Marys, next to Paddington.

Candidates will go through a recruitment process similar to those who applied directly to Imperial’s MRC-DTP recent call. Successful candidates will be supported by the training programme structure in the MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health and will be provided with bespoke research training to ensure they are equipped with the appropriate skills and experience to become first class researchers.

SAHSU is a nationally and internationally recognised institution for research into environment and health, with over 200 scientific publications and impact on health policy. SAHSU is currently undertaking a number of major research projects, with increasing attention being given to improving exposure assessment techniques. SAHSU maintains a wide range of routinely collected health and environmental data at small area level. A key focus of its work is the development of methods in spatial statistical analysis to investigate potential associations between environmental factors and health. SAHSU works with a multi-disciplinary team that collaborates extensively with other departments within Imperial College and with external institutions in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Successful candidates will be supported by the training programme structure in the MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health and will be provided with bespoke research training to ensure they are equipped with the appropriate skills and experience to become first class researchers.

The 3.5 year studentships provide a generous stipend (£18,000/year) and includes tuition fees and an annual allowance for consumables.
