Applications are invited for PhD studentships within the MRC-HPA Centre for Environment and Health, starting in October 2011. We particularly seek candidates with a strong interest in cardio-respiratory disease, reproductive, environmental and spatial epidemiology, environmental sciences, risk assessment and modelling, air and water pollution, biomarkers, environmental toxicology, biostatistics and metabonomics.
Specific key projects for the studentships are now available:
- Health effects of indoor nitrogen dioxide.
- Health effects of environmental exposure to agricultural pesticides.
- Statistical methods for the analysis and interpretation of correlated exposure metrics within a time series framework.
- Uncertainty analysis of the CMAQ modelling system; determining model suitability as a support tool for air pollution, epidemiological and climate policy in the UK
- Community health impacts of large scale biocomposting.
As a minimum, attainment of a UK 2:1 degree or equivalent, and appropriate training at Masters level in a relevant discipline is expected. Successful applicants must fulfil the College admissions criteria prior to enrolment. The studentships provide a stipend of £18,000 p.a. Tuition fees are covered at the Home/EU rate. There is no provision for overseas (non Home/EU) student fees within this scheme.
