Thousands of people frequenctly visit the LondonAir web site to check the latest air pollution measurements.
RSS feeds are becoming commonplace on the internet. They are used on news sites to allow users to keep up to date with the latest headlines and other sites use them to notify users of new content.
The RSS feeds in the LondonAir web site will provide you with a notification if any sites in the network measure 'moderate', 'high' or 'very high' pollution. Alternatively you can monitor air pollution measurements at a specific site; you might wish to choose a site near to your work or perhaps one close to your home. We have also set up dedicated feeds for each local authority in the network that will enable council officers and members of the public to view the latest measurements from all of the sites in their area. Also you can connect to the LAQN news feed to if you want to keep abreast with the latest pollution incident reports, free network seminars, reports and new sites joining the London Air Quality Network.
Air quality monitoring manager Gary Fuller said:
"We are always seeking new ways to get air pollution information out to the public. Up to date public information is an important part of the air quality management process; raising awareness of pollution incidents and helping people to minimise the impacts of air pollution on their health. We believe that the LondonAir is the first air quality network in Europe to provide an RSS service."
IT manager Robert Hepburn added:
" User testing formed a crucial part of the development of the existing LondonAir site and the new RSS facility. We would like to thank all of the local authority staff who provided helped during the RSS development and we would welcome feedback on this new service."
To connect to the LondonAir RSS feeds go to http://www.londonair.org.uk/london/asp/rss.asp or look out for the new RSS icons in the LondonAir site.
