Research at KCL assesses new FDMS particle monitor
News from the LAQN

Research at KCL into the measurements of PM10 and PM2.5 made using the Filter Dynamics Measurement System (FDMS) compares them to established particulate monitoring methodologies in the LAQN. The FDMS is a relatively new automatic monitoring technique and has proved equivalent to the reference method for PM10 and PM2.5.

Operational issues that affect data quality are explored and advice is given regarding the best way to minimise data loss. The comparison between the monitoring methodologies found that differences were most marked at the Marylebone Road kerbside site, where the FDMS measurements met the air quality objectives while other methods indicated failure.
