Air Quality Measurements from the Elmbridge Borough Council
News from the LAQN

Historic air quality measurements from Elmbridge Borough Council can now be accessed from the LondonAir web site.

By contributing these measurements to the LondonAir web site, the results from Elmbridge Borough Council's monitoring programme increases public information on air quality Surrey, adding to the measurements from LAQN sites in the boroughs of Reigate and Banstead and Mole Valley.

It is often said that air pollution does not respect local authority boundaries. This increased information from Surrey will add to the understanding of air pollution in the county and across south London. Measurements have been ratified until spring 2006 by members of the monitoring team at the Environmental Research Group (ERG) and are now available, along with additional site information and photos.

Measurements are obtainable from two air quality monitoring sites; an urban background site located at Bell Farm in Hersham and a roadside site on Esher High Street. A variety of pollutants are monitored, including PM10, Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur Dioxide and Ozone. The Hersham site has been running since 2001 and the Esher site is a new addition to the monitoring programme, only added in September 2005.
