Camden Council and King’s are working together to make PM10 and PM2.5 particle measurements on Euston Road for the first time
News from the LAQN

The Euston Road monitoring site near King's Cross occupies a significant location in London. The road is a main arterial route and 2013 nitrogen dioxide measurements at the site were over two and a half times the EU Limit Value - amongst the highest concentrations in London. Several health research centres are also located in the area, including the new Crick Institute, the Wellcome Institute and University College Hospital. Euston road is busy throughout the day, serving as major pedestrian routes from King's Cross to central London and between King’s Cross and Euston stations.

The new particle measurements will be especially important given the amount of construction in the surrounding area, namely the current developments near King’s Cross and the planned redevelopment of Euston as the High Speed 2 hub.

The addition of PM10 and PM2.5 measurements at Euston Road will better our understanding of local construction and road emissions. New information will also be gained on pedestrian exposure. In addition, the measurement site will assist in the vital task of assessing the impacts of exhaust emissions reduction policies. The monitoring site is deploying an analyser that can measure both particle fractions simultaneously. It is only the second instrument of its type to be deployed permanently in England.

The new monitoring equipment is part of the London Air Quality Network. Measurements from the monitoring site can be found here
