New site in City of London joins the LAQN
News from the LAQN

The City of London Corporation added a monitoring site, City of London 8, to the London air quality network at the end of May 2009. It monitors PM10 particulate by TEOM.

The site is in a roadside location in the south of the Corporation area on Upper Thames street, just below London Bridge and is situated by a heavily trafficked road. This site joins two other roadside and two background continuous monitoring sites in the City of London.

Due to the positioning of the site by a busy road, under a bridge, that experiences frequent congestion it is expected to detect elevated PM10 from traffic. Within the City of London there is frequent demolition and construction work. While the PM10 measured at Upper Thames street is expected to be mostly from road traffic it may also be influenced by local construction.

Historic data from 5 April 2007 to 25 May 2009 will shortly be available for download from our website.
