3.5 Year PhD Studentship
News from the LAQN

King’s ERG have teamed up with the University of Cambridge to provide an opportunity to further our understanding of pollution exposure in London.

Despite its importance to public health, the behaviour and distribution of air pollution in heavily trafficked urban areas is still not fully understood. Furthermore, most available epidemiological evidence pertaining to the health effects of air pollution is based on measurements from sparsely distributed fixed location monitors.

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge has developed a series of accurate portable and semi portable sensors to measure a range of air pollutants. These sensors are capable of providing detailed information on personal exposure to pollution levels and can also be used to conduct high density measurement campaigns in urban areas.

A NERC PhD Studentship is now available to help develop the application of networks of high density fixed monitors and mobile personal monitors to improve understanding of the relationship between vehicle emissions, the urban landscape and personal exposure.
