A new report by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), looks at solutions for the construction industry to reduce their impacts on London’s air quality.
Recommendations are designed to reduce pollution caused by construction on London’s already congested transport system. These include construction logistics plans (CLP’s), consolidation centres, vehicle holding areas and better use of the river for transporting construction materials and waste removal. The report also highlights the requirement to record details of all non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) on the Greater London Authorities on-line register, which is administered by the London Low Emission Construction Partnership (LLECP) at King’s College London. This will allow regulators to make sure that only the cleanest construction machinery is being used in the city and improve the understanding of real emissions from this sector.
