Volcanic ash under observation Update 16/04/2010

The UK Met Office has issued an advisory showing the predicted progress of ash from the recent major volcanic eruption in Iceland. According to satellite images, the plume is currently at a height of 20–30,000 ft, nearing the eastern fringes of the UK (16th April 09:30).

The Health Protection Agency has also issued health advice concerning the volcanic ash should it reach ground level: HPA website

To date, no evidence of plume grounding has been detected in measurements from monitoring sites in the south east. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this news item should this situation change.
